My Reading Challenge for 2023

It has been said that buying books and reading books are different hobbies. I can confirm this.

I have a love for buying books that I cannot explain and at the same time a bigger love for reading but do not always have the time. There is just something about a stacked bookshelf and a library and a book shop. I cannot pass any of them. It is like a 1000 worlds and wisdom waiting to be discovered.

All right, enough lyrical dreaming.

What happens when you have such a big love for buying books, visit two warehouse sales in a matter of 4 months and buy at least 1 book from every bookstore you pass, with little time to read the books?

Well, the answer is you have a totally out of control TBR pile (TBR: To be read).

I try to make time to read, but I am not a fast reader and I choose to take in the story and sometimes ponder on a chapter, but I went wild.

Currently I have 30 unread books on my shelf. Oh, but they look so pretty with all the titles and covers and colors. I had to think of a plan to just grab a book and read and stop procrastinating on this pile.

I have decided that I am going to wrap all my unread books in newspaper or brown wrapping paper and only mark the ones that are part of a series. Then I am going to try my utmost best to make a dent in my pile so that I do not end up with the same number of books next year December again. This means, I need to set a higher goal than 12 books for the year, but at the same time I do not want to pressure myself. I get very anxious about completing goals. So, the goal will be set at 15 and everything more will be a bonus. This should then (almost) half the pile. Laugh Out Loud!

Just think about it. Every time I start a book it will be a complete surprise and you can follow my journey on Instagram to see how it is going.

What are your thoughts? Do you think I can do it? Let me know in the comments.

Here’s to a successful 2023 of reading as much as I possibly can, living 1000’s of lives and using my imagination.

Ciao!

E xx
